The Joshua JV Lady Owls picked up their 2nd district win over Seguin on Tuesday night 27-23. The Lady Owls used an aggressive full court press and an 11-2 3rd quarter to take control of the game and held on late for their 2nd district win and 7th win of the season!
The first quarter was a tight defensive battle with the score level at 4 a piece after 1. The Lady Owls were outscored 9-6 in the 2nd quarter and faced a 3 point halftime deficit. Whatever was said at halftime seemed to fire the Lady owls up as they outscored Seguin 11-2 in the 3rd quarter to take a 6 point lead. The lead got as high as 8 in the 4th and Joshua held on for a 4 point victory!
#13 Freshman Carissa Stowe had 6 points and a career high 15 rebounds to go with 2 blocks, 2 steals and 1 assist.
#30 Sophomore Hannah Cobern had 7 points, 12 rebounds, 3 blocks and 1 steal.
#14 Freshman Jeleen Guerrero had 11 points, 6 rebounds, 4 steals, and was clutch late from the free throw line making 5-6 to seal the win.
#33 Freshman Mattie Jones chipped in 3 points, 3 rebounds and a steal.
My girls played their hearts out. We talked about the little things after the Cleburne game like making our layups and free throws and playing with the lead instead of chasing. They accomplished this and more. Seguin beat us by 24 points the first time we played them but we are continuing to get better each practice, and each day. They believed they would win before the opening tip and they got the job done! Our next game is against a Burleson JV that has yet to lose a district game. The JV lady owls are excited about the opportunity to give them their first district loss. I believe that they can get the job done! We can’t wait until Friday!
The JV Lady Owls will play Burleson on Friday night at home!
