On Friday, 1-19-18, the Lady Owls basketball team lost a hard fought game to Cleburne 55-51. The Lady Owls were down by 12 points with 4:38 to go in the 4th quarter, and went on to make it a 3 point game. They just couldn’t get those last few shots to fall to overtake the lead. The coaching staff was very proud of the composure and hustle these girls showed. The improvements they have made this year are astounding. No matter what the situation, the girls play hard and never give up. The first time they faced Cleburne, they lost 60-34. To lose by 4 and have chances to win it this time around just show how much this team has grown. Bianca Quintanilla had 24 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 steal. Ellie Berry had 9 points, 2 rebounds, 4 steals, and 3 assists. Abbany Loya had 9 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists. Raylee Minich had 4 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 assist. Amy Olivas had 3 points. Adriana Cortez had 2 points, 2 rebounds, 1 steal, and 1 assist. Emily Nichols had 2 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 1 assist. Ashton Taylor had 2 rebounds and 3 assists. As you can tell, every player contributed this game. As a team, we shot 75% from the free throw line, and we had 45 hustles plays. Hopefully, being in a close game has helped us to grow even more. Next time we are in this type of situation, we will be better equipped and know what to do to be successful. This group of girls has great work ethic and perseverance, and we are proud of how much they have improved, and we are excited to see what they accomplish in the next few games AND in the future. Go Lady Owls!
