The JV Lady Owls basketball team opened the Ennis Tournament with a 35-22 victory over Creekview.
The Owls started the game slowly and found themselves down 7-5 after the first quarter. A 3 pointer late in the quarter from #12 Bailey Balliew kept them close.
The Owls went to a smaller 3 guard lineup and pushed the tempo to start the second quarter. #14 Jeleen Guerrero got them started with a 19 ft jump shot and # 23 Abbany Loya began to make her presence known in the paint with 6 straight points leading Joshua to a 15-12 halftime lead.
The 3rd quarter was a back and forth affair but the Lady Owls posts helped them maintain their lead as #30 Hannah Cobern had 4 points and Loya added 6 points to keep the Lady Owls up 23-19 after 3 quarters.
Creekview would get no closer as the Owls used a full court press and fast paced offense to outscore them 12-3 in the 4th quarter led by Balliew’s 4 points, # 10 Alexa Gonzalez’ 2 points, #13 Carissa Stowe’s 2 points, and Loya and Cobern each adding 2 of their own.
The final score was Joshua JV Lady Owls 35 Creekview JV 22.
Loya finished the game with 14 points, 9 rebounds, 2 blocks,3 steals,and 3 assists.
Cobern had 8 points, 6 rebounds, 3 blocks, 1 steal and 1 assist.
Balliew had 7 points ( 1, 3 pointer) 5 assists, 3 rebounds, and 3 steals.
Guerrero had 2 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals.
# 20 Ella Belzner added a rebound and a steal and # 21 Eden Barknowiak had a rebound and a steal!
Coaches comments: ” I am very proud of the extreme hustle that the girls showed tonight. Every girl that played had a positive impact on the game. It was a total team effort.
The JV Lady owls will continue the Ennis tournament tomorrow when they play Waxahachie at 12:45.
