The day started with a parade and ended in celebration as the Freshman Lady Owls completed a season sweep over the Granbury Lady Pirates.
The Lady Owls B team got things started with a 25-17, 25-23 victory. The Lady Owls were led by #12 Anna Yates who dominated the Lady Pirates all night. She finished with 9 kills, 2 blocks, and 3 aces with 7 service winners. #4 Abbie Kelly did a little bit of everything as she made sure a ball never hit the court finishing with 6 digs and 9 assists. #14 Tatem Bullard and #13 Haley Carter both had strong all around games as Tatem served out the second match clinching set! # 11 Allison Sayen got the lady Owls started by serving them to a 4-0 lead and Joshua would never look back. It was a total team effort with contributions from #1 Emma Mendoza, #7 Audrey wiley, #8 Jaleen Guerrero, #9 Brianna Tavernaro, #10 Eden Bartkowiak, # 16 Ally Mankel, and #18 Austen Stanton.
#17 Tia Chernow kept her teammates excited throughout the match with her constant energy and leadership. She finished with 5 kills and 3 blocks and 6 service winners.
The Lady Owls B team moved to 7-2 in district play and 14-4 on their season.
The Lady Owls A team started slowly as they had to wait an extra hour to get their match started. It showed as they lost the first set 25-19. They stormed back to take the next 2 sets 25-18 and 25-21 to finish off a season sweep!
They were led by an outsanding performance by middle hitters. Granbury had no answer for # 13 Carissa Stowe or # 12 Rylee Armstrong. Carissa finished with 8 kills, 3 blocks, 3 aces and at one point served 8 consecutive winners. Rylee dominated the net and the back line with 7 kills and 11 digs. She also got the Lady Owls started strong in the 3rd set by serving them to a 5-0 lead that they would never relinquish.
Setters #9 Ciera Tarr and #8 Camryn Carey were on point with their passes and their hustle all night as they made it easy for #7 Celeste Guzman, #3 Kyleigh Pennell, # 2 Abby Ellis, and birthday girl #1 Jada Jean to hit winner after winner.
Abby was also pinpoint on her passing game all night as she led the Lady Owls with 13 digs.
# 11 Ella Belzner provided a spark in the 2nd set that got the Lady Owls their first lead in the match and they never looked back.
#6 Caroline Harris kept Granbury at bay with an outstanding passsing effort in the 3rd set with 5 digs.
# 10 Emily Walker was crucial to the victory when the Lady Pirates got within 20-16 in the 3rd set. Emily came in for defense and had an error on the first serve hit to her. She responded by making 3 perfect passes as the Lady Owls closed out the match.
The Lady Owls showed the power of TEAMWORK as all 11 of them played a major role in the hard fought victory.
The Lady Owls A team moved to 7-3 in district and 17-6 on their season.
The next game for both teams is Tuesday night at Centennial.
